A new social media trend encourages users to ‘Be the Main Character’ of their stories and take charge of their life. It has emerged a rather important and enlightening underlying message as we sometimes begin to forget that we are the protagonists of our own lives. To become more attune to our personal desires and strive to fulfil our passions, here are a few tips to craft our own stories and ‘Be the Main Character.’ 1) Prioritising your wellbeing

As controversial as this may sound, it's okay to be a little selfish. Make time for yourself and focus on your personal growth. Create personal traditions for yourself and secure time to focus on what you love doing most. A simple evening walk, a cup of tea or listening to an hour of your favourite tunes is all you need to unwind and take a break from the fast-paced world we live in. After all, no one will look after you better than yourself, and you will only be equipped to support others if you’ve looked after yourself. 2) Embracing your feelings

A huge part of being the main character of your own life is allowing yourself to feel your emotions and validate them. Our personalities are shaped by our personal experiences and that is what makes us unique. In our busiest moments, we often choose to suppress our feelings, as a result, we become disconnected from ourselves. Which is why, it is imperative to treat yourself with kindness. While you might find yourself being highly productive on some days, it is also important to acknowledge that taking time out to heal is as important. 3) Fake it till you make it

It is easier said than done, but positive affirmation and self-belief are key components towards achieving ‘main character energy’. By setting up small goals for yourself - whether it is the fact you got out of bed today or decided to put in a workout, experiencing those mini victories in private can facilitate your confidence to increase. By consistently reinforcing encouragements to yourself, you begin to internalise your beliefs and start expressing the qualities you intended to achieve. This is delayed gratification so it is important to be patient with the process and give yourself time.

Finally, you’re your own person and can only take control of your life. However easy it may be to succumb to societal expectations and compare yourself with other people’s achievements, believing in yourself and taking steps to actively take charge of your life will immensely contribute to becoming a more satisfied and content version of yourself.
