Our sessions

The Positive Wellbeing Peer Support Group aims to support you making positive changes in your daily life to maintain your mental health throughout university. Our weekly sessions are a flexible and drop in format where you hopefully feel safe to freely discuss what is on your mind.

Two student facilitators, trained by the Wellbeing Centre, will guide the discussion each week with broad themes such as stress management, active relaxation or the importance of social connections. The themes brought to each session are there to help guide the discussion but we recognise that these are only a starting point and are not prescriptive at all. If you come to one of our sessions and want to discuss a different area of mental health then we will absolutely do that.

Our sessions are designed to be participant led. As facilitators, we are there to create a safe space where you feel free to take the discussion to the area you most want support with.

Events

Throughout the year we hold monthly stalls in the forum where you can come up and chat to us as well as being able to see what activity we are running on that day.

We also hold three big events throughout the year. This year we are planning on holding a day of yoga and mindfulness, a mindful stone painting event and the opportunity to spend some time with therapy dogs to relax.

Stay tuned to our socials for more information about when these are taking place and how you can get involved!

Other support

The University of Exeter has a wealth of support available to its students.

The Wellbeing Centre can offer bespoke support through their Psychological Therapies and Mental Health Pathways as well as support for those with disabilities or specific learning difficulties through the AccessAbility Pathway.

For student support, Exeter Nightline is a confidential listening and information service run by students for students. The volunteers are happy to listen to your concerns and worries, whatever they may be and is open from 20:00-08:00 every evening during term time. You can find their telephone number on the back of your student card.

If you are struggling with your relationship with food, the Eating Difficulties Peer Support Group is run in a similar way to ours but with more of a focus on difficulties with food and/or body image as well as providing support to those who are living with eating disorders.

Please see our Resources page for other local, national and online systems of support that you can access easily.
