I would recommend this book as a starter book if you are beginning a journey into self-help and recovery. Many people struggle with motivation and concentration when struggling with their mental health, but I found this book to be a very easy read and it is interspersed with drawings too.

My favourite chapters of this book taught about practising gratitude, the law of vibrations, money, and acceptance. For example, this book was the first time that it was explained to me that it was not inherently bad or selfish to spend money on meeting your own needs. For me, this was revolutionary as guilt had been a big feature in my life.

“Money is merely energy - neither good nor bad, and unlimited in our infinitely abundant Universe. Make money to assist you, not to complete you.”

With regards to gratitude, I also experienced a mindset shift. Sometimes when we are advised to be grateful, it can feel like our problems are not being validated, or that our character is being judged. This book helped me understand that to practice gratitude is to learn a new, more helpful, way of thinking about the obstacles that we face, rather than to diminish them. Now, I practise gratitude every day.

“Before you complain about cleaning the house, take a minute to be thankful that you have shelter.”

The book also talks of positive lifestyle habits, making yourself a priority, accepting yourself, working on goals, taking action, finding purpose in pain, and of course positive vibes. The book breaks down complex problems into simple components and prescribes simple solutions. I realised that so many of the things that I had been grappling with, others had too, and they had overcome them.

I think sometimes we can benefit from a guide, and from some reassurance that we are doing the right thing. I found that this book went a long way to meeting this need for me, I hadn’t realised that there might be answers out there for me.

For these reasons, I have recommended this book to many of my friends, who themselves have recommended it to their friends, and I would recommend the book to anyone out there experiencing well-being related concerns.
